should i buy the Canon – EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens?

im really into photography, im not a professional just an amateur but im pretty good, specially at portraits.

I currently have a canon EOS rebel xsi, and it came with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens
witch ive read is the most standard lense there is.

i really want a new lense, but i want to start off with something not too expensive but still great.
ive been looking at the eEF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens, ive seen sample images taken with that lense and i really like them.

just need some input on it
