I recently sold off my 18-55mm non IS lens. I was not very satisfied with its performance. I would like to buy the EF 50mm f/1.8 II bcz its cheap and fits my budget. On the other hand i take a lot of landscape photos so would it be wise to buy a prime lens?? I heard its better to have a IS lens if camera is hand held all time.... i dont use a tripod so should i buy the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens?? please help me

I use a Canon EOS rebel xt (350D).... till now I haven't been very satisfied with my 18-55mm non IS kit lens. It often produces blur images, probably bcz my hands are not very firm that's why.
I would like a good travel lens.... one with which I can take portraits, macro and landscapes like the 18-55mm..... see many ppl take nice landscapes with 50mm prime lens though very shallow DOF.
EF-S 55-250mm seems to be a good lens with IS though a bit expensive.
So should I buy a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II or EF-S 55-250mm IS lens? Which 1 would be the best combination for my 350D??‼
